Kindeishi - "kin dei" meaning "gold mud" The suffix "shi" means paper.
These vintage, richly hued papers are crinkled, and coated with with gold dust, creating unique and elegant, very-textured surfaces. This is a very limited kozo (mulberry fiber) paper. These papers have been treated with a starch called konjac or konnyaku (devil's root starch) and hand-crinkled. The starching process creates a paper that functions as a fabric,, so Kindeishi is not only soft by extremely strong. Historically, paper was often used as a fabric for making clothing.
