Echizen washi is paper from Fukui Prefecture.  Echizen Washi brocade-like patterning is called hikkake; it is created with a large, metal watermark screen and dipping it into mitsumata fiber.  Whether the paper is simple, patterned, or shiny with a metallic sparkle, Echizen washi has the perfect elegance for wedding invitations, envelope liners, menus, labels, wrapping paper, book covers, book end sheets  and how about lampshades?!

Traditionally n Japan, this type of paper would be used for fusuma or inside sliding paper doors.
